Hello everybody!!

Looks like something odd is going. It’s early Sunday morning over here in Australia, so I’m going to see if I can wake up our developer on call and report the issue.

Please don’t panic or worry, we’ll figure out what’s gone wrong and ensure everyone’s balances and withdrawals happen appropriately.

I’ll post back with an update shortly.

:-) Wow posts come up fast on the forums these days. I added my comment and then had a meeting and bam there’s more thread now!

I’m just finishing my draft Notes post about the dev roadmap and a recap of what we did in the last year!

Then it escalates to become a slanging match and Collis pops in and with his usual calm well written replies says something along the lines of trust me we know and are really working hard and and and …. And then all the newer authors (who haven’t seen this before) come along and say things like awesome reply Collis, looking forward to things and you rock etc but we all know it’s just great public relations in the end – sorry Collis love ya man but that’s the pattern we have all come to expect.

... inserts awesome reply to totally chill everyone out :-)

:-)

Hey guys! I just noticed we’ve now passed 1500 WordPress themes here on ThemeForest!! What a huge number!!! In fact we are at 1510 right now, and I just checked WordPress.org’s free theme library and its 1508, which means there are now more themes on ThemeForest than on WordPress itself … kind of crazy!

The top theme on WordPress.org has been downloaded 13,417 times. Here on ThemeForest our top theme has been downloaded 11,658 times. That’s pretty close!!

Overall WordPress.org is still kicking our butts on total downloads however with some 45,116,229 total downloads. I think that number might be a little out of reach (at least for now ;-) ) since if those were all $35 themes that would be like $1.5 billion in sales … might take a little while longer to reach that!

Anyhow, well done to all the WP theme authors!!!

Hey 3DOcean’rs! I wanted to stop in and post up some updates and stats about how 3DOcean is going. I’m really excited for the site this year as we are slowly starting to get some momentum going. It’s taken longer than I ever thought it would, but little by little the numbers are starting to push 3DO’s way!

So first of all you’ll be excited to know that February was a record month for 3DOcean, biggest sales month ever (not counting the month we ran a bundle!) – must be that extra leap year day we got in Feb 29 :-) Year on year the site has grown about 50% which isn’t as quick as most of the other marketplaces, but is in the right direction and is a significant enough stat to post imho!

We now have 404 authors with at least one sale, and of course last year Peter Guthrie became our very first 3DO Elite author – I hope there will be plenty more to come, though I must admit paguthrie is way out in front at the moment :-)

Traffic is on average up about 30-40% from this time last year, and I’m very happy to say that search traffic is triple what it was this time last year! Also a curious traffic stat: 3DOcean has a higher portion of Windows visitors than any other Envato Marketplace at 80% Windows (the marketplace average by comparison is 68%).

We’ve just passed 4000 3D Models and are about to pass 5000 files generally on the site. So we’ve come a long way in terms of library depth, and this more than anything else is what makes me think 2012 is going to be the year for 3DOcean!

We’ve got lots of promotions planned this year to help build that momentum, and the first big one kicks off today in the form of our 50% Marketplace Credit Back on all 3DOcean purchases! Along with growing sales, we also should see quite a few feature improvements this year, which I think are quite overdue for this marketplace. Hopefully this too will contribute to making 2012 3DOcean’s year :-)

I can’t wait to see March’s numbers, I think it’ll be another record breaker for sure!!!

phwoar! that’s insane.

Kinda crazy numbers aren’t they! It’s been a real learning curve understanding this sort of volume. One year ago our total items was just under a hundred thousand, so to 10x in one year means all sorts of dev work – something I hope to talk about in an upcoming Notes post on the dev roadmap and projects.

It’s been seven months since we launched PhotoDune out of private beta, and I’m excited to wake up today to see we have just passed a million photos on PhotoDune!

When we set out to create PhotoDune, our intention was always to build a viable option for purchasing photos for our existing buying community. A big part of that goal is having enough depth for buyers to find what they need. While there’s nothing specifically magic about a million photos, it feels like a solid indicator that our library is getting to a good size.

Sales on the site have grown since I last posted in November, but the growth hasn’t kept pace with the breakneck library expansion. This of course means there’s been some sales dilution. This is a normal part of growing a photo library, and not an unexpected one. From here our next focuses are on image quality, more development of the marketplace featureset and lots of sales growth. I’d also expect a slowdown in library growth rate as we certainly aren’t planning on making a run on any of the big photo libraries for sheer size!

I’d like to thank all the photographers who’ve had the confidence in us to upload over the last seven months. It’s been an enlightening experience building this marketplace, and I’m looking forward this year to applying a lot of our learnings from PhotoDune back on the rest of our network of marketplaces.

Records have been tumbling around here like crazy. We’re close to pushing past 1.5 million members which is pretty amazing since it was only four months ago that we passed a million. Sales growth across our network of marketplaces also continues to climb really, really fast. With PhotoDune having a firm spot in the line-up, it’s a stronger group of marketplaces than ever before!

Thank you again to all our photographers who’ve helped make PhotoDune a success! We’ll be working hard to improve and deliver more and better value back to you in the coming months and years! We really appreciate your faith in us!

Is this one cab be used? http://www.flickr.com/photos/mistybushell/2228156682/ Thanks!
Hey GoodLayers, it looks like the image is licensed under the Creative Commons commercial attribution license, so it should be usable in a preview provided you attribute and linkback appropriately in your item description.

Hey guys, I’ve been giving this some more thought, and while the CC license is right, actually the people shown in the photo won’t have been model released (not just the tennis player, but the background people) – therefore it’s not a photo that should be used in a commercial preview.

Sorry, got that last answer wrong :-S

Thanks to Doru for pointing out my mistake!
