Of all the things you could do to try and verify a human is at the keyboard, captcha has to be the worst. It is SO very (very) difficult to read. After 5 attempts I almost flipped off your site and went to a competitor site. I mean you’ve got a blurry “i” that looks like a “t” and it’s smeared and twisted and partially rotated. I’m turning my head all over the place trying to figure it out (etc).

I’m not even sure why the damn thing came up. My password was auto-filled the first time and correct. The next time this happens and it takes more than 3 tries I’m never coming back (not to be a dick, that was just annoying beyond words).

edit: The other thing that’s brought me close to never coming back again is getting emails the CASH I ’ve given you for “credit” (which you have to do to pay the lower price – nice penny pinching greedy scam) is going to expire after a year (even though the credit that’s a year old should have been spent before newer purchased credit, but your system at least for me got confused).

Me: I’d like a gallon of milk Greedy A-Hole: That will be $5 or $3 if you give me $20 which I will convert into credit. Me: WTF ? I’m confused. Why can’t I just give you $3 cash right now? Greedy A-Hole: Look, stop wasting my time before I have my hired thugs hold you upside down and shake all the change out of your pockets while I have starving 3rd world children collect the lint that falls out to make $30 t-shirts. Me: I’m still lost, I have to give you $20 right now to get a $3 gallon of milk? Greddy A-Hold: Yes, or just give me $5 right now. Act now and I’ll lube you up real nice before I bend you over.

What lightbox / player is videohive using for previews?

Just curious, I need to create a simliar lightbox video style for a page and I like the way it works here.

I would assume this line would take my need to ‘extended’:

Single piece of computer software or training material, including education material, intended to be distributed or accessed by multiple people

Although you could also say a free to download video cast could fall into that even though that need would be standard. It seems a bit fuzzy when you’re need is for mass viewing inside a restricted network (Private Intranet).

I’ve been working for the last few months on an internal Corporate web application (Intranet App). I’m near the end and recording a video tutorial/overview. If a wanted to purchase an opener for the tutorial, is that a standard or extended license? It doesn’t seem to fit into either description.

It would be used under these conditions: -Not for sale -Not viewable by the public (Limited to being viewed only inside a corporation LAN /Intranet)

I have no budget for this – just wanted a little spice at the tutorial beginning. I’ll probably roll my own intro if the case would be Extended.

I’ve had my head buried in Ruby on Rails for the last 7 months. I really miss AE (and games…).

I was checking out the Ruby on Rails 3 introduction video and the background music sounded so familiar. After a couple of seconds I remembered “Beautiful Worlds” ( http://audiojungle.net/item/beautiful-worlds/45119 ). It’s funny; it was like playing the “I know I’ve seen that actor in another show/movie” game.

Really cool – I’d be proud of I had a track that was used in the Rails 3 announcement video. I’d guess most people wouldn’t have much of a clue what Ruby on Rails is though. If you’re into web applications, it’s really really big.

I just noticed both of these 6 month old projects have claimed the #1 and #3 top sales slots. I don’t often sort by sales when looking for something to use. It seems like the Spectrum project had #1 locked down forever (along with Glide). NickolasM has actually passed Spectrum by 50 sales (wow – awesome).

I’m a big fan of the Logitech G11 . It’s cheap and backlit and there’s 18 extra macro keys on the left that can be assigned macros or functions (per application). There’s three bank levels for the 18 keys, so for each application you have 54 extra keys you can use. You can assign keyboard shortcuts “CTRL+ALT+T” to a single key or record a set of keystrokes that can be played back at full speed or with the user pauses between keystrokes matched.

For more complicated things, I use Macro Express (http://www.macroexpress.com/index.htm) and assign Macro Express macros to the G11 macro keys. With Macro Express, you can respond to system events (a single pixel changing color on the screen, a file being created in a directory, etc) so you can pretty much automate anything.

Don’t Repeat Yourself (DRY)

Indoor recording looks better than I expected. CCD ’s must be improving really fast. All I see looking around is 30fps @ 720p. I wonder what the compression method and bit rate are?

Windows 7 is a hot rod Ken. XP is 10 years old now, it’s ancient. I understand what you’re saying about reinstalling a lot of programs. It’s a 12 hour day for me. Here’s what I do though:

Get a new system drive (small, fast, a small SSD drive is the best choice if you can afford it):

1) disconnect all drives and plug in your new system drive 2) do as much work as you feel like, installing Windows 7 and apps 3) disconnect the new system drive and reconnect the old drives (repeat when you have time)

You could spread out the work of setting up Windows 7 as long as you want to and never been in a rush to get everything done because you need the system back.
